Michelle Obama To Decorate White House With... →
Michelle Obama loves to dress in J. Crew, and now she’s bringing her affordable aesthetic to her new home. According to Us Weekly, the First Lady will use Pottery Barn to re-decorate parts of the White House.
Michelle is working with L.A.-based Michael Smith (clients: Steven Spielberg, Michelle Pfeiffer) to furnish the rooms of Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, with items from the reasonably-priced...
It's officially the coldest winter in 25 years.
The coldest of my life. Yikes.
Holding a baby today made me want to reproduce.
I interviewed a lady at her house this morning and got to play with and hold her tiny, adorable baby, Ali. She cuddled with me, smiled at me, and giggled. I just melted. The interviewee said, “Uh oh, she loves you. You’re gonna catch the baby bug and you’ve just graduated.”
My thirtysomething, engaged coworker also warned me that as I grow older anytime a baby is in the...
Money talks. It says, "Bye Bye."
I had to buy a straightener and a hairdryer tonight. My hairdryer stopped working when I attempted to use it Monday morning and my straightener was held together by rubber bands for a while and now has lost it’s non-stick coating due to use. Had to spend over $75 all together (with a 20% off discount at Ulta— thank goodness).
After dropping that much cash, I no longer have the...
This is Why April is Awesome:
April 3rd: The Hold Steady at Courtyard Cafe, Urbana
April 5th: The Ting Tings at Metro
April 10th: Andrew Bird at the Civic Opera
April 11th: Mates of State and Black Kids at Metro
April 17th: Ra Ra Riot, Cold War Kids and Death Cab for Cutie at the Aragon
(Let me know if you would like to tag along to anything— except Andrew Bird sold out in five hours)
I have a sudden urge to shop
This can’t be good for many reasons: A) It’s 10:22 at night and that would mean I’m going to have to shop online (risky), B) I’m extremely tired and on the verge of becoming sick, therefore may make decisions I’ll probably regret (for example I just looked at leotards on American Apparel’s site), C) Shopping equals spending money (always the worst part).
This...
Blagojevich not crazy, experts say →
Is Gov. Rod Blagojevich crazy?
The answer: Not exactly, according to experts in mental and personality disorders. But that doesn’t mean Blagojevich qualifies as normal. (via The State Journal-Register)
Definitely not normal.

Whoa. This would be the best publicity company to work for ever. Too bad they don’t respond to my requests for an Andrew Bird interview.
Weekend Update
Friday 10:30 pm: Arrived in Champaign after an incredibly blustery drive down
11:30 pm: After walking about five blocks too many (Maria, Keith and I managed to pass California Ave and ended up in the middle of Urbana’s residential district), we got to Elle’s birthday party where I was greeted by an endless sea of Buzz people
Wee hours of Saturday: Cops came to the party and...
Prentending to be a student again is great.
I’ll fill you in once I get back home.
Many great parties and meals were had. I’m gonna miss it.
TMI at CPK
At dinner we were having a rather in depth conversation about birth control. About five minutes after they sat down, a family with two children sitting behind us requested to be moved. Oopsie.
A few things I dislike about winter:
Potholes
Ice
Heavy Jackets
I was so tempted to walk around without a jacket today because it actually felt warm to me. Then I heard on the radio it was only 32 degrees. In my defense, the snow was melting causing me to imagine tropical temps.
Writing from the playground
This morning I was planning on coming into the office a bit later because I wanted to get a head start on some of the stories for the first issue of the year. I figured Starbucks would be a safe place to go: no Internet distractions (because you have to pay for wireless) and constant caffeination. I went to the Starbucks on Lake Avenue. Little did I know that around 10 a.m. it turns into a second...
Sorry for being boring
I’ve been really busy with a friend being in town and work and life in general. I promise I’ll be more exciting. I will be away from the burbs this weekend, so lots of shenanigans will ensue. Pinkie swear.
Only at my gym would middle-aged moms be doing the...
Oh, Wilmette. You’re so special.
Do you remember Bush’s second inauguration concert in 2005? Probably not,...

My friends and I had a lovely candlelit dinner...
And it wasn’t on purpose at all.
There I was sitting with my glass of wine, I look up at the flickering ceiling lamp, and I say, “I think your light is going to go out.” Well I didn’t literally mean every light in the apartment, but a few seconds later we were eating our Thai dinner in darkness and squealing like children.
It actually turned out to be a nice break, no...
Listening to Fleet Foxes in my new car is like...
My sound system may not be made by Bose, but it certainly suits my needs at the moment. I tweaked the audio settings and it sounds ten times better than when I first got it.
I’ve been meaning to post some pictures of my Sentra, but now it’s filthy and my camera is being super temperamental (so I may finally have to buy a Canon Powershot, which I probably should have done a while ago)....
My room is a complete mess.
I’m too embarrassed to show a picture. The weird thing is, it’s mostly clean clothes. After they got washed I started piling them up on one chair. Somehow that pile overflowed onto the floor.
I would clean it now, but I’m too exhausted. What I did today: interviewed a retailer at 9:30 a.m., dropped off some magazines at a few stores in Winnetka, ate lunch at Panera (I never eat...
One of my New Year's resolutions is to watch more...
I know that sounds ridiculous, but lately I only turn on the tube on Mondays. I think I can do better than that. I deserve some distraction from work and the addictive internet.
Tonight I began improving my life by watching The Office (for the third time in my life) and 30 Rock. Both were hilarious and enjoyable. I had been told by a half dozen people that I would LOVE 30 Rock and I do. Tina Fey...
